When You Throw Out Your Back

I may be a young adult, but I guess that doesn't stop my body from acting 30-40 years older than it should. This is not the first time I've thrown out my back, but this is probably the one time I will openly admit that it was all my fault.
So here's the story:

I was picking up a briefcase sized safe in order to put some stuff in it and for some reason I didn't adjust to compensate for the weight. Did I really think that a SAFE wouldn't be heavy? When I had it off the ground, I immediately felt my back spasm a little. No big deal, it's happened before. I can deal with this.

Well that day my friends and I decided to go to the fair. Again, walking around is not a big deal when my back is sore. Unfortunately, I was hanging out with my friends who have utterly gorgeous kids whom I love with my whole heart. Throwing caution to the wind, I would pick those kids up, throw them around, run with them and have a grand old time. My back did not forgive me and two days later I am still not okay.

Here are some things that come to mind when my back is not working for me:
  • Sleeping on my bed should be fine if I sleep on my back, right?
  • Wow, my bed was probably not the best place to sleep. I should try sleeping on the floor.
  • How did this floor not magically heal me?
  • This massage that my roommate is giving me hurts so good.
  • Yeah this is extremely painful, but in a great kind of way.
  • Maybe if I go in the hot tub and let a jet hit my sore spot I'll be cured.
  • My skin is not liking this at all.
  • I have to be pretty attached to this seating arrangement because I will not be getting up any time soon.
  • Is this how pregnant women walk and get out of chairs?
  • Okay, two hands on the chair and lift yourself up. That still hurts, but slightly less.
  • I'm really upset that I can't slouch right now.
  • But sitting up straight like a princess is the only time my back does not hurt.
  • I should have listened when everyone was trying to teach me good posture.
  • Moving my leg is not an option.
  • How the heck is my BACK connected to my LEG.
  • I should have taken more science classes.
  • Nah, I hate science.
  • My friends are right, I do have an old soul. Now I have an old body to match.
Moral of the story: lift with your knees and don't aggravate your already existing ailments. You'll probably regret it later. I mean, I don't but you probably will.

Don't feel sorry for me. I brought this upon myself. But if you want to pray for me, I wouldn't say no. The Lord needs to heal me of my blatant disregard for my health and safety.
