The Abandoned LA Zoo

Everyone's heard of the LA Zoo, but not everyone knows that right next to it is the old version. The abandoned version. It's not as sketchy as it sounds, I promise. The old zoo has been converted into a hike/picnic area in plain view of the old enclosures. Of all the sights to see in LA, this is one of my favorites.
I went with the specific purpose of adventure in mind. Now, I'm not telling you that the only way to get the full experience is to mildly trespass, but it certainly wouldn't hurt. If you're not into the whole misdemeanor part of life, there is still plenty to see. They even have picnic tables for you to eat and be merry. Great birthday party spot, if you ask me.
Here's some pictures of us roaming around. It's pretty neat, right?
I would be careful about some of the sketchier parts of the zoo. There are a few dark corners that you should be aware of and not walk right into without a light source. You never know what you could be stepping into. Some of the graffiti on the wall is pretty graphic, so don't look too closely if you're bashful or easily offended.
The Abandoned LA Zoo is definitely a gem of a place. It may not be the nicest spot, but it's definitely one of the funnest. It also makes for a good photo spot.
