Life From The Middle of the Classroom

Picture
I have never considered myself a bad kid, but I definitely was not a good kid. Sometimes I sat in the front and I hardly ever sat in the back, but most of the time you'll find me in the middle. Why? Because the middle if where you can pay attention if you want to and zone out if you don't. The sassy kids sit in the middle and I definitely belong in the middle. What can you possible learn about life from being in the middle? A whole lot.
  • Selective listening is the best listening. I love learning, but I don't love trying to pay attention to something that doesn't interest me. What do I do instead? Well the picture above is of a pen doodle I tend to do. I use a ball point pen to black out the page, which takes a few classes to complete. I do mindless activities like this and half listen so I'll at least catch the important stuff. Sometimes I listen to everything, but I guess you'll never know.

  • Sitting in the middle of the room means you're less likely to get randomly called on. This one is basic. The kids in the front want to get called on and the kids in the back don't. Naturally, those are the first picks in the draft.

  • Eating in the middle is less awkward than eating right under the teacher's nose. What if they haven't eaten all day? You're insulting them and drawing attention to yourself and that could end terribly.

  • Being a goody-two-shoes/ teacher's pet is exhausting. Presenting a "better" and "nicer" version of yourself to a teacher/professor is dangerous. You have to keep up that appearance forever! Use your real personality to talk to your professors, especially if you're sassy and sarcastic because they will definitely appreciate that more than someone who is putting on a facade. Most of the time, anyway. You'll become the favorite instead, which is completely different than being a suck up.
Now, I'm not trying to tell you how to live your life (or where to sit). I'm just giving you a different perspective. Know the consequences, but no matter where you sit, always say hello to your professors when you see them outside of class. Major brownie points.
