Josie's Journal Journey: The Third

I like to go to thrift stores. Seeing the things that people loved and spent money on makes me feel like I'm sifting through a treasure chest full of the past. On one of these trips, I found a rare empty journal for sale and my friend bought it for me.

On the cover was the painting pictured above by the amazing Edward Hopper. I had to have it and I had to use it. These are some of the less embarrassing things that I pulled from what I wrote way back then:
  • A single thought could change someone's whole world. Shouldn't we want that?
  • Sermon: Chapel on "Words & Worth," 4 December 2013
    • "Don't downplay the weight of your words."
  • "Love set you going like a fat, gold watch." - Sylvia Plath
  • Sermon: Chapel on "Advent," 4 December 2013
    • "Desire the work that needs to happen in the world."
  • "What a paradox, putting God in a box."
  • Sermon: Chapel, 22 January 2014
    • "The only thing we can do with our lives is give them away."
  • "The Church may be a whore, but the Church is my mother." - Martin Luther King Jr.
  • Sermon: Liturgical Chapel on "Family Norms," 30 January 2014
    • "Blessed are you when you're at the end of your rope."
  • Why do we have to tear it apart if we know we won't be able to put it back together?
  • We feel the need to know everything and it's making us miss the point of it all.
  • Sermon: Chapel on "Mark 4," 5 February 2014
    • "Reach out to the 'hopeless' causes, not just the 'deserving' or the 'ready.'"
