I Hate Group Projects

There are plenty of people who feel the same way I do. Group projects are hell for introverted perfectionists like me, but if you're try explaining this to any educator, they'll immediately shut you down. You're either selfish or unwilling to take on a new challenge. I'm sorry Mr./Mrs. Educator, I think I know under what circumstances I work best. We've all heard the speech about playing off of each others strengths and how you're going to have to work with others in the real world, but here's why I think it's all BS.
  • Knowing you work better alone is not selfish. People who work better on their own should not have to be subjected to working with other people just because there are some people out there that do work better with the help of others. You cannot treat two people the same and expect decent results.
  • Working with others is not a "new challenge." I've worked with others before. Since kindergarten, my teachers have been trying to get me to buy into the group project mentality. I've never bought in because I always end up caring all the weight.
  • The group  work that we're going to be doing in the real world is not the same as your group projects. In the real world, people have a specific job and a specific role in the project that they're working on. They're paid to do their job and people will only do their job. You may have assignments in your group, but that doesn't mean that there won't be people who will not do their job or who won't do it up to snuff.

If I believed in making things illegal, I would probably make group projects illegal. So please, for the love of all that is good, please don't make me do another group project that I'm not getting paid to do. And if I am in the middle of one of those projects, please offer me some grace. I'm probably going through a lot. Who's with me?
