How to Deal with Your Bad Art

As an art major, I'm forced to take classes in forms of art that I have no intention of pursuing ever in my life. These classes have resulted in a few pleasant surprises, but mostly, they've resulted in terrible "art."
For example, I am absolutely terrible at drawing. I hate it so much because I am just not good at it. I have made my peace with this, but that doesn't save me from having to take the class.
One good thing that has come from making so much bad art is that I now know how to deal with it. I now know how to take a step back and laugh it off. Here's how:
  1. First, cry. It's alright, just let it out. Making things look real is difficult and it's alright if you can't do it. Just let the tears flow.
  2. Stop crying, you baby. You were allowed to cry over your failures ONCE. I mean it. From this point forward, you will no longer be allowed to be unsatisfied with your life because you can't draw hands.
  3. Act like you don't care. Play it cool. Instead of admitting you aren't good at painting landscapes, pretend like you don't care enough to try. Your teachers may get mad at you, but at least they don't know you're a failure.
  4. Now try really hard. Spend long hours trying to get on the level of all of your other classmates. It'll take you about three times the time and effort it took them, but you have something to prove!
  5. Acceptance. You got one good piece out of you, which should be enough to tide you over with your teachers and classmates. Now it's time to accept the fact that it's going to be the best thing you ever make in that medium. Throw your paint brushes away and never look back.
  6. Self-care. Get your art supplies of choice, a camera in my case, and make art. Those stupid drawing and painting kids can't take a decent picture to save their lives. Revel in the fact that at least you're good at something.
Art is hard. There's already enough people in the world that are telling you that your life passion is useless, so stand with your fellow artists in their time of need. Help a brother/sister out and tell them it'll all be alright. The semester will be over soon.
