Whoever said opera was dead has obviously never met Catherine. She attends Azusa Pacific University and is majoring in Vocal Performance where she graces all of us with her stunning talent and presence.
She started singing in elementary school and wasn't given a solo until an eighth grade production of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. She continued on to sing in her high school choir where she spent one year in an all women's choir. Junior year, she auditioned and was accepted into the Chamber Choir, which was the most elite choir of her school. Throughout high school, she took singing lessons and participated in musical theatre. Soon enough, she learned that she was very interested in classical music, so she auditioned to attend the Colburn Conservatory where she thrived. Her voice teacher, Michael Stevens, encouraged her to pursue classical and opera singing.
While she was in high school, Catherine visited Azusa Pacific University where she heard of a classical singing competition, which she enrolled to audition for. In her auditions, she met Dr. Galloway who encouraged her to take singing lessons over the summer with her and really took an interest in her as an opera student.
Catherine chosen to come to APU after being pursued by many other institutions. Now she's here and has performed in two operas and is looking forward to being Hansel in Hansel and Gretel this upcoming Spring.
She's amazing, but don't take my word for it. See and hear for yourself.
