Bad Timing

Picture
from journal number one
I was reading on a park bench when a stranger sat down next to me. He didn't say anything, just sat back and smiled as he looked on. I never imagined that he would speak to me. I assumed he was tired. Without giving him a second glance or a second thought, I continued reading.
"What are you reading?" he asked. Slightly annoyed, I showed him the cover and continued reading. He was just being polite, I thought, but then he asked me if I liked the book. Why else would I be reading it? I told him that I did and stuck my nose right back in the pages, hoping he would get the hint.
"You're not much of a talker, eh?"
I put my book back in my purse. "You kind of caught me at a bad time," I said politely. He seemed surprised when I stood up and walked away.
